So I just got back from my vacation to...CANADA!, about an hour ago. This was my second time going to Canada but my first going to Toronto & Napanee. Last time I just went to Niagara Falls. I left Wednesday and stayed till Sunday night. It's about a 7 hour drive from where I live (which is in NY about an hour away from NYC). A month ago or so I asked everyone on Bandaids places to visit in Toronto and Napanee for fun and Avril related stuff! I just want to thank everyone who suggested stuff cause I basically did everything people suggested like Canada's Wonderland, the Toronto Zoo, places to shop and eat! I had such an amazing time. Canada is absolutely beautiful.
So on Thursday we drove 3 hours from Toronto to Napanee. The first thing we did when we got there was go to La Pizzeria since we were starving! I was worried I wasn't going to like all the toppings on the Avril Lavigne Pizza but of course I had to get it! It actually was so delicious! Definitely one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The owners were SO nice! They showed me pictures of the last time Avril visited (4 months ago) making pizza accompanied by her Dad and Brother. He told me a girl saw Avril outside La Pizzeria and was crying and crying and she went over and gave her a big hug. He said she visits about 3-4 times a year and gives them VIP passes to her concerts (so jealous).
After La Pizzeria we went to the church she use to sing at and then we drove past her old house. Napanee is a really nice town. All the house look super nice and cute.
Next, we went to her old high school, Napanee District Secondary School. My Mom and I got out of the car to take pictures in the front while my Dad and Sister waited in the car. I really wanted to go inside but the front doors were locked so my Mom and I decided to look around to see if there was an open door. (haha My mom, sister, I also snuck into Avril's second fashion show last year in NYC). As we walked along the side we found an open door with janitors sitting inside. We asked if we could quickly come inside to take pictures. After telling us that they were closing and to come back another day we explained to them that this was the only time we would be here. Another janitor walked by and she let us in. I quickly ran to get my Dad and sister. She gave us a mini tour of the school since it's so big. She said it's one of the biggest schools in Ontario, which is funny since it use to be such a small town. They use to have an Avril muriel but it was taken down because kids where drawing on it but she said they were going to be making a new one. As we walked along the halls there were paintings everywhere on the walls. It is a really nice school, so much nicer then mine. She showed us the "The Studio" which is where Avril use to play her guitar and she also showed us the "Music Room". I asked if she worked there during the time Avril went to school there and she did on and off. She said her son went to school with Avril and that Avril got kicked out of school for skipping a lot to go play her guitar or go downtown. Both Avril's siblings Matt and Michelle went to N.D.S.S. I asked if she knew where Michelle was living. I was curious because we never see or hear anything about her. The janitor told me she wasn't sure but knew her father lived in Kingston and Avril had bought her Mom and (now ex) Step-Dad a big house in Picton, Ontario. She also told me that they know every time Avril's in town when they see a yellow hummer driving around.
Then we went to the Napanee Arena to go see the Avril Lavigne display. It was really cool. They have every album, movie, soundtrack, & perfume she's ever done. They also have pictures and Abbey Dawn Dresses/Shoes.
After Napanee we drove to Kingston to see Abbey Dawn Road. We weren't really sure where it was and no one seem to heard of it. We ended up getting a little lost. I knew the road was in or right outside of Kingston. After buying a map we finally found where the road was, it was on the other side and very end of Kingston. The road is very wooded and really pretty to drive down especially when the sun was starting to go down. After all this adventure time we headed back to Toronto and called it a night.
While in Toronto I also drove past Avril's old house there during the Under My Skin era. At first we weren't sure if we had the right address because the road seemed more like a drive way or alley. It was right between some stores and a house. We decided to drive up it anyway and it turned out to be a street with condo like houses. We found Avril's and it had a camera outside the garage (which none of the others had) probably from when Avril lived there. I definitely wouldn't think Avril would live there because it was so hidden but thats probably the main reason she did, so she could have privacy!
I had such a great time and wish I could go back and do it all over again. It was so surreal being in Avril's hometown and seeing where she grew up. If you haven't been there you must go! Click the links below to see my pictures
