Ellen Degeneres Speaking About Recent Bullying Related Suicides

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B-hVWQnjjM]YouTube - An Important Message - From Ellen DeGeneres[/ame]

Such a gut-wrenching video - couldn't watch it without tearing up.

It's crazy to me that this kind of stuff still happens. One of the things I've always loved about Bandaids is how gay friendly everyone in the community is. I was out on Bandaids before I was out to most of my close friends and as a 16 year old just knowing that there were other gay people out there made everything a lot easier.

Anyways, just wanted to say that if anyone out there is feeling alone or different for any reason, you should know that basically all of us have felt that way at some point. And if you ever want to talk about it - feel free to talk to me or i'm sure anyone else on the staff would be happy to talk to you too.

    xx

I love Ellen, and that's what brought me to this topic, along with her speaking out about this issue. I can remember in the eighth grade, I was told I was going to hell for the simple fact that I was bisexual. I've have numerous girls come up to me in the females restrooms between classes and push me against the wall, and scream in my face telling me how stupid I was for having the interest I did in females. A lot of others wouldn't be around me for that reason. Once I had enough, I denied every time someone asked me if I were bi. A lot of long talks with my best friend, who was also bisexual, she taught me not to care what everyone else thought of me, So I was openly bisexual, and the bullying started again. I've been in a few relationships with females but as of now I am with a very special guy, whom I love Very much. I don't label myself straight, lesbian,or bisexual. I am one thing, and that's me. Thanks you for reading, If you did.

^^ Thanks for posting your story - that's crazy what you went through (and maybe are still going through).

I think it's awesome though that you had such a good best friend to talk to about it .

^She was and still is a great friend. I was in public school when that was going on, which is very different from me now being in home school. That was really one of the two reasons I decided to get into a home school program. The last incident was on a bus, The class I as in was taking a trip to the nearby high school for whatever reason. But my girlfriend at the time, and I were sitting together. Because I had my arms around her, A male turned around, pointed and yelled something about us being lesbians. It didn't bother me that said it, It was the way he said it. He ended up getting expelled for multiple accounts of harassment. Sadly, The friend I mentioned wasn't around at the time, I was living a state away. I'm happy to be back near her, as she is always there for me. (:

This is all just so horrible. I've never been bullied because of my sexuality (straight), but I was constantly bullied in junior high school and high school for my looks (pale, skinny, flat-chested), personality (shy, quiet, introverted), and because I wasn't interested in partying or getting drunk. I was interested in learning, studying, and being a good student-you can imagine how un-cool this was.

People need to accept that everyone is different and respect those differences-whether it's sexuality, looks, personality, religion, whatever.

Edit: When I was being bullied, I thought about suicide, but never seriously.

    It's Never THAT Bad!

Sometimes a situation seems so insurmountable,
that a person will resort to the unthinkable....
..but, in the final analysis, almost everything
may be overcome; even the posting of embarrassing
photos etc. on the Internet. Life is so very
precious, that it should never be thrown away
    so easily.

I was a close friend, for many years, of a Holocaust
survivor (now dead), whose parents were exterminated
in Auschwitz; and his only sibling perished on the
Russian front. Before his liberation by American troops,
in May 1945, he had been reduced by starvation, to eating
    grass, in Mauthausen Concentration Camp.

All this happened when he was only sixteen years old.

He never contemplated suicide, and eventually lived a
happy, productive life. If he could overcome such terrible
events; I'm sure that others could also put things into their
proper perspective, and choose meaningful life over meaningless
    death.
