“WHOA!” Christopher screamed in Joanne’s face. She blinked for longer than normal. She looked into his warm eyes, and hoped that he would know what she wanted. He didn’t get the hint, so he just stared back at her for a while. His mind filled with slight confusion.
“I though… We were just friends, Joanne?”
“Oh…” Silence.
About five minutes later, Joanne told Christopher that she needed to head home for dinner, but he stopped her for a second. “I’m sorry,” he whispered to her, “I’m just not ready yet.” She nodded and wondered off.
Christopher’s POV
I was sorry for any disappointments, but I was really worried about what Joanne was going to do with me! I love her, like really love her, but I never want her more then just a friend. I’m not even nearly ready for a relationship or first kiss anyway. She could do so much better than me anyway. Call me a nerd if you like, but friends and work are my priorities. Love can wait. I’ll hopefully find someone some day. Not that Joanne isn’t good enough, because she’s honestly my world. I just don’t see her at all in that way.
Joanne’s POV
I guess, I was right in the first place, he wasn’t the type of guy who would date at a young age of16. He’s different and more caring than the average teenage guy. Plus, his eyes that sparkle like topazes, which I could get lost in forever. Oh well, there’s nothing in me for a great guy like him to see in me. I have stupid ginger frizzy hair, which I was always teased about in my younger days, and sometimes I still even get bullied about it. I haven’t even got nice blue or hazel eyes, I’m stuck with a dull moss-green colour. Why can’t I have shinny eyes or lovely blond, straight hair like any other ‘pretty girl’? Why can’t I be nice, sunny and tanned rather than pale , ghostly and freaky? I guess, I can’t blame Chris for not wanting me after all. I tried to stand out, I tried to be the one who saved him; I’m still just not good enough for his relationship standards and never will be.
I guess I can’t moan about this forever. I need to pick myself up, smile, be friends and move on. I mean, he’s still an awesome friend of course. It will take a while but someday hopefully soon I’ll be okay again. There’s someone for everyone for everyone out there and one day, I’ll find someone else. Then again, how long will it take?

* Time Passes- Three Months Later- January *
Amy’s POV
The past few months had just been the best with our threesome! I hadn’t even spoken to my old friends at all to be honest, neither did I have the desire to. It’s quality, not quantity after all. They were just a bunch of losers who thought that they are cool.

We were having to work hard because of GCSEs and everything, but we make time for each other. We did our usual Friday outings, and then introduced sleepovers as well. We took it in turns going to each other’s houses. We often played silly games, such as truth or dare or murder in the dark and watched movies (often romcoms to Chris’s disgust.) We just had fun like any teenagers did. We separated at Christmas time to spend more time with our families, but we were heading back to school soon, so we would start to see each other again.

Joanne’s POV
First day back at school after the Christmas holidays. I was so excited to see Amy and Chris again! We’re all great mates now, my feelings for Christ kind of slipped away and I know that we’ll only ever be friends.

We took our usual places at the front of our German class as the first lesson began. The teacher then announced that we had a couple if new students to the class. Jezz, even more now people this year? We had three last term, which was amazing because Chris was one of the new students. The new girl, Rosie took a share seat next to me and the new boy Mike took the seat next to her. Great, more friends, possibly? When class was over, me, Amy and Chris when over to them. “Hey newbies, Rosie and Mike,” I called to them, “fancy joining us at our table for lunch?”
“We would really love you to join us,” added Chris. They both agreed.

Christopher’s POV
So we sat on the table with our new groups friends and had great conversations and got to know each other. Mike was a great fan of sports, such as football and basketball. Rosie was into languages, sport, photography and dancing. A huge range of hobbies. I could see that she was very talkative and was talking nicely with Joanne particularly. Me, Amy and Mike mainly talked about Mike’s old school life. He moved because he was bullied so badly in his old school he ended up with depression and became a self harmer. It was a horrible story and I will try my best to support him through everything. He’s such a nice guy after all.

Weeks passed again, we became so close so quickly. One night, we gathered together at Amy’s house for a mini party.
“So Chris,” Mike came over to me, “do you like any of the girls then?”
“Oh me, nah. They’re just friends to me. Yourself?”
“Oh Amy. It’s freaking amazing to me,” Mike seemed keen on her. “She’d so pretty and honestly so adorable the way she keeps her hair up all messy like that and wears barely any make up. She’s imperfectly perfect! I think I really like her.”
“You should go for her! May be she likes you too.” I encouraged him.
“You think I’m good enough for her?”
“Yeah, sure! You’re a really great guy.”
“Thanks, mate. It means a lot.” I meant it, of course. I’ve only known him for a few weeks, but he and the rest of the group are the greatest friends I’ve ever had. My life is coming together. Mike’s was getting there too.

The end of year 11 came and their GCSE exams were over. Mike and Amy went to prom together and were just starting to date. Mike was back on his feet and had recovered from depression.

* Flashback - Back to prom – Mike’s POV*
There I was, standing at Amy’s door in my grey suit, black loafers and blue tie with a white rose in my hand- I wanted her to see that I am a guy who likes to put a lot of effort in with girls. I wanted to make her mine soon! She opened the door and came out wearing a ankle length, strapless, pale blue dress. For once, she wore her long blond curls lose with a sparkly butterfly hairclip to the side- she looked perfect. Not only her looks are stunning, but she’s totally flawless in everyway. Her personality, her interests: I fell for it all. I gave her the rose and she thanked me. I took her hand in mine and we headed off to the best event of my life.

* End of flashback *
The main group was also still in shape: Joanne, Amy, Mike, Rosie and Christopher were as close as close could get! Their bonds were strong and indestructible; nothing could break them apart. They knew each other’s stories so well and they always got along. Joanne had completely moved on from Christopher and only saw him as a friend. There was unlimited joy inside them all!
