Avril Lavigne Reportedly in the Hospital

Now that it's been a day and still no official press statements or any form of speculation even hitting the major gossip sources, it was probably just exaggerated by the original source from Twitter. I can't see Avril being seriously ill and nothing being said to fans or any mentions to the media at all. Wouldn't make sense.

Although Rodney (her drummer) has clearly read some tweets from concerned fans about Avril and her supposed condition, his lack of comment is probably out of respect for her privacy or possibly because it wasn't a big deal. So if anybody's really thinking 'life or death illnesses' right now, it seems to be very, very safe to say you truly have nothing to worry about.
We all get ill, Avril's no different. I'm sure she'll be fine after some rest, medicine and plenty of OJ.

I'm sick right now myself and it sucks but she's tough, she'll be alright.

I read in another Avril website that she wasn't hospitalized it was a good way to don't attend the YHAwards that maybe was never 100% confirmed

if she just cancelled because of yes the everyone will go mad against her but with something like this people and fans will only worry about she been ok.

I agree, it is strange. I'd like to think that maybe there was no announcement about why she had canceled at the last minute to not worry anybody. Maybe they didn't even know word of her getting sick would even be put out there or she had planned to say something about it later. Now if the event was televised live, I could see some form of statement going out there as soon as possible.
I truly don't feel like whatever she's got is severe, it just seems too odd that nobody would have reported something like that by now. So far, OK Magazine is the only source to have reported her absence at last night's event but surprisingly they didn't write something shocking as the reason.

If she was in the hospital, it was most likely just a very short visit. But I understand what you mean about how alarming it could be for everyone, especially since none of us really have an idea of what's going on.
Last night, it sounded really serious but I'm glad they later posted that it was just a cold.

When I used hospitalized in my post on the home page for this update, I did my best to word it as informative as I could without scaring or worrying anybody or making it as dramatic as what the rumors possibly could have suggested. I think hospital and hospitalization would have had the same effect on us all, for the most part. But I made sure to include the important bold text at the end to further support the actual details posted in here and to hopefully add some relief to those who were extremely worried.

I don't want to belittle anyone's concerns because I know everyone reacts in their own way. But at the same time I think it's important to note that reactions like this can serve to stoke fear in other people and that's something we should avoid.


How would you react if you found out a friend had the flu? Chances are you woudn't say it's a "sign of the end of days". You'd say "Shit man that sucks. I hope you feel better."



To the individuals who are questioning whether this is a rumour, here's what we know.

What we know:

• Avril did not walk the red carpet at the YHAs and Shaun White accepted Avril's award on her behalf.
• Kristen Benson who is a producer of Hollywood Life which puts on the YHAs tweeted that Avril was "super sick" and in the "hospital".
• It's VERY possible that Kristen was exaggerating when she said "super" sick as a way to temper the frustration she saw from other people tweeting #YHA2011 asking why Avril was not on the red carpet
• Kristen later added that Avril "probably" had the flu.

So, like many other people have guessed in this thread, I'm assuming that Avril was probably just getting dehydrated from having the flu and they took her to the hospital as a precaution.

It may be that the sarcasm was missed in my "end of days" comment ...

People, even music stars, fall ill and go to the hospital all the time. I'm sure she'll be back on her feet in no time.

I apolgize for any misplaced humor ... I'm an incorrigible smart-ass.
