Because she is Katy Perry, People love and adore. People are not critical towards her, plus Katy did no start out as the "serious" and "mature" teenager then suddenly become more bubbly and happy as she gets older.

What works for Katy will not work for Avril.

Besides, one of the reason GL failed is not only because lack of promo but her colored streak think Avril is still fuck in her TBDT days, that she did not grow up, which made people not giving GL a chance.

Even you once said that the critics and her fans are getting tired of her colored streaks hair.

Katy Perry's One Of The Boys was a lot more "mature" than Teenage Dream. There is some deep tracks on that album. But then Katy sold out and people still like her even with colored hair. Keep in mind that a lot of people compared One Of The Boys to Avril Lavigne's music too!

Um. Were you around during LG? Her image was the total opposite of serious and mature. And that's what we loved about her. She wasn't this pretty, mature girl, but rather a girl who did what she wanted no matter what anyone else thought. That's why she was so recognizable and why she stood out.

I feel like the reason why many of you hate the streaks since you pair the streaks with TBDT. If she had streaks during Let Go or Under My Skin, this probably wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, they do. Avril says herself quite a bit that fashion and her career go hand in hand. It's all connected and part of the big picture that represents her as a brand. Her hair is part of her fashion and a definite contributor to her image. She can wear it however she wants, but if she wants to look 16, that's how seriously people are going to take her. If she's aiming for a pop-tart Teenage Dream flavored era, then she can roll with it. If she's trying to release anything in vein of I'm With You or Hot AC/ Triple A type material, she can't pull it off (*Cough cough*, Goodbye Lullaby).

I'm very, very excited to hear what she puts out. She has an opportunity to make a big sound/market change with her first release on a new label, so where she wants to go with this album is up to her. Considering pop/rock is dead to radio anyway, it's smart to make some changes.

Everything from the album artwork to darker tone in the lyrics communicated that she moving away from her teens and securing the transition into adulthood and serious musician. Let Go might have been the opposite of maturity in the behavioral sense, but the material could be argued as having it's heavy moments too...in my opinion anyway
