It's not wrong to find someone attractive. It's wrong when it's glorified in media for $$$$$$$. It's wrong when it's entirely photoshopped. It's wrong because it's not real. It's wrong because those women on the covers don't even look like those women in real life. It's wrong when it makes normal women feel terrible about their bodies. It's wrong when it leads to altering your body in unhealthy ways to achieve these made up looks. It's wrong when people expect women to look like that in real life. It's wrong when young girls are getting messages that they need to be impossibly beautiful, hot, sexy, extremely thin and that they'll also probably never achieve it.Originally Posted by Frezz To view the link you have to Register
"I wish I looked like Cindy Crawford" - Cindy Crawford.
Yes, an actual quote.
Advertising women in a sexual way tells us that what's most important is how we look, so we're thrown "ideal female beauty". We're taught from an early age that we must look a certain way to be accepted and feel ashamed and guilty when we fail. You almost never see a photograph of a woman considered sexy that hasn’t been photoshopped. Our culture turns women's bodies into objects. Turning a human being into a thing is almost always the first step towards justifying violence against that person. We see this with racism, we see it with homophobia, and we see it with terrorism.
I don't blame you for finding what I have to say ridiculous. I blame the culture you were raised in ridiculous.
Lol'ing@Feminists for pointing out misrepresentations that affects everyone is Lol'ing@little girls starving themselves to a state of depression. So good job.

Fuck that. It's human nature to like looking at women who look a certain ideal way. It's not some giant conspiracy to get women to feel bad. The only reasons magazines do anything is because it sells, because its what people want. Men don't buy maxim to see Mrs Average off the street. It's a magazine of exceptionally good-lookinng women, the cream of the crop. There is a market for a magazine of sexy women, it WILL be filled, the world is not going to pretend men want to see ordinary women to spare peoples feelings, it is not the place for showing how women are valued for intelligence etc because its purpose is focusing on the aspect women have of being the objects of sexual desire to men, a part of biology whether you like it or not, the ideal woman has large fertility-indicating breasts, healthy skin, and youthful blonde hair and big eyes, and the perfect facial dimension, topped off with whatever the current societal trends are. This is biology, it has no notion of political correctness. The media isn't the place to see people shown as intelligent and complex, its about what is aesthetically pleasing and appealing, its never going to pretend to value the ordinary to pander to this cause. We don't want to look at the ordinary.
Are you proposing that we censor the celebration of conventional beauty and sex appeal? Because its what we instinctively want. You can't change human nature. Women should stop embarrassing their gender by their plight being that they are too weak-minded and shallow to value their intelligence more than their looks, just because the industry of aesthetics and ideals doesn't focus on it. There is a male ideal too but you don't see men crying over brad pitt. I really don't want to be associated with this gender anymore lol I think ill grow a dick so nobody calls for the end to the natural love of beautiful people and my behalf anymore I personally am not stupid enough to value myself based on looks.
We want to look at beautiful people. That is too heavily ingrained in human nature to be changed. Most people are not conventionally attractive. They never were. The rise of media and ability to moreheavily perpetuate the ideal causes problems but the media WILL NEVER stop showing us what we like to see, it is not a charity. People just need to think for themselves and maybe they wouldn't be basing their self image on something so superficial.

I still have no idea why Avril isn't there in the list.
Aesthetically speaking, she's one of the top tiers of beauty and sexiness, So maybe she's not so relevant, but so what? so is others in the list.
Since the magazine is about aesthetic beauty and sex appeal I really think that it's stupid to base the rank on popularity, you can be very popular but still not have those ( gaga, nicky minaj, snookie ).
Katy have won, but it's all base on popularity, I mean, she's pretty and sexy but there are WAY MORE BEAUTIFUL celebrities out there.
With beauty, the standard will differ... Like many of my country men aren't impressed with many hollywood beauties/models BUT really find the american/western girl next door very appealing and enticing, we don't want those fake orange tan.
