Avril's Surprise: Music Video for Goodbye

Interesting, not sure how i feel about this. Some parts it looks more like a photoshoot rather than a music video, but at least Liddell is good photographer.

In these kind of "thank you fans" projects it's important how genuine they feel, seeing that she is in her underwear in most of, it makes you feel it's meant to more wider audience than just her hardcore fans.

I think this video was made a long time ago when she had Vanity Fail photoshoot coz the scenes are the same, she has the same clothes and she looks the same as at the photoshoots, does anybody agree?

1st of all I have a question. Was this shoot the same day as that Vanity Fair? Cuz if it was then Avril knew this from the middle of her Goodbye Lullaby era and that confuses me.

My thought on the video. I love how sweet she is in the intro and that she went that extra mile just for us fans. The video had such potential to be artistic and shocking and just incredible it didn't quite stand up to what it could.
While I was watching the video I KNEW there was a sad ending and I really really so badly hoped she killed herself again it just didn't stand to it's full potential.
I love Avril, Goodbye was my favorite song from the beginning and this was mediocre even for just a fan video but it just doesn't have that spark it should. I remember the time Avril knew how to make music videos and it kinda ended after When You're Gone. I miss that tho but she is still inspiring.

I have to say I don't really understand how the video fits with the song at all. It was a very artsy project and something very different and unexpected from her. However, it's clear it was inspired from the Vanity Fair photo shoot (not very original) and I probably would have liked it much better had she not been in her underwear for 95% of it. Does she really have to be in lingerie for every single video now?

The crying at the end was unnecessary, I feel. She already did the exact same thing in Wish You Were Here, which was a much better video than this one. As far as Mark Liddell's videos go, Alice and WYWH >>>>>>>> Goodbye. Sorry. It was a nice idea and very thoughtful of Avril to do for us. It was an artsy idea, especially with the Hollywood look (and LOL at people actually thinking that's her real hair ). I just felt it was very confusing and jumped from different scenes too quickly to understand the storyline (if there even is one). She looks so gorgeous she doesn't even need to be in her underwear at all! Her makeup was done really well.

Though I think the part at the end where she tore her clothes off was an excuse for her to show off her body, I think it could also be interpreted as her way of "stripping" her identity, along with the wig. All she's wearing is her underwear and a coat (obviously she can't be completely naked )- so it's like she is showing her raw, real, true self- she has nothing to hide behind.

I still don't understand the storyline though. It was very confusing for me. She looked gorgeous in some shots, others not so much. Not my favorite video from her, but a nice idea. Does anyone else think this is the "movie" The Runners tweeted about?

You expressed it perfectly. The crying in this one comes across as extremely forced and fabricated; "Wish You Were Here" seems genuine-which made me cry. "Goodbye"? Not at all.

^^So that video was shoot the same day as her Vanity Fair, you can see the sofa is the same from the pic you posted above, you can also see from the video the fridge is the same and the tiles in the bathroom are the same and the bed although you barley see the bed in the pic but you can see its the same. I don't get it then?

After thoughtful contemplation of all aspects of this short film, it seems to me to be distilled down to one very simple, elegant thought, one which Avril has expressed from Day 1 of her career ... Be yourself. You can't change or try to put on an act for someone. You may please them, but you won't please yourself. Be true to who you are, realizing that you may be able to fool others but you cannot fool yourself.

You can act happy or sexy or any other way. But it's just an act. True happiness comes from being honest with yourself, about who you are and what you're doing.

And certainly her "nakedness" in the video is a visual metaphor for stripping away all that encumbers you, to get down to the core of your being.

Find yourself. Know yourself. Be yourself.
