I see even the nicest of artists get criticized. For example, I am huge fans of American Idol country singers Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina. They are 18 and 17 years old, respectively, both very nice, humble, extremely talented singers. I see comments like,
"Scotty sounds like a 40-year-old man," "He's ugly!", "He will not make it far in the music industry," etc. and about Lauren, "She's fat!", "She can't sing!", etc. These 2 kids would never say a bad thing about anyone and yet receive some very mean and rude comments from people who don't have the slightest idea of what they're even talking about. "Scotty will not make it far in the industry- his career is going nowhere"- um, he actually broke tons of records with his debut album and his album went platinum within 3 months of release. Yeah, he hasn't made it anywhere.
I'm not gonna justify people's criticisms of Avril, but sometimes she sort of brings it on herself. I mean, she does dress and act immature at times, and releasing songs like WTH doesn't help. The difference between her and other artists like Katy, Gaga, etc. who also dress and act immature is that those artists don't pretend to be mature. Avril goes on talking about how "deep" and "serious" GL is but then sings WTH, what do you think people are going to think? They see her as a hypocrite because she says how serious her music is but then sings a song that is the opposite (not her fault, we know, but the general public doesn't know that).
Zach and Katy are totally right. All artists get shit on for even the stupidest reasons that might not even have to do with their actual music (i.e., appearance, the way they talk, etc.) I mean, Adele is obviously a hugely popular and talented singer, and people will actually say something like, "She's so fat!" Okay, maybe she is, but why should that even matter? She's a singer, not a model. As Katy said, the only thing people really bash Avril for is immaturity/sellout-ness (which, like I said, she kind of brought on herself for making songs like GF and WTH and releasing a clothing line, perfumes, etc.) At least no one calls her fat. JB haters call him "gay" or call him a girl. Calling someone fat or gay is a way worse insult than being called immature (especially if she really does act immature sometimes). And the immaturity sometimes shows in her music, so it actually does affect her career. Being fat or gay has absolutely nothing to do with the artist's music. Like Katy said, some of these criticisms aren't exactly "unfair", per se. She could be called much, much, much worse. Don't read the comments and get over it.
