What are Avril's Most Embarassing Hits and Flops?

Well actually, on average, Avril releases a new album every 2.5 years.

I don't think her album spacing is the issue, I think the singles are the problem. Avril would rather release a single for the sentimental value rather than for chart success, which I like, but she could easily have 3 or 4 massive hits from every album if she did the promotion and chose singles wisely. Still, as someone has already said, Avril sells albums, not singles, which I really admire.

Sad but true, when it comes to single choices, Avril is one of the weakest in the female pop stars.

If she will only step aside those personal feelings and be more professional and competitive to her single choices, ( and career move as well ) Avril could have been a much bigger artist than she is today.

I hope this time Avril chose the right single for both personal and sentimental reason.

Avril should also realize that she's a pop star, and pop star's value are more based on the single success, not the quality of the whole album itself, A pop star can have an album with lots of fillers BUT will be considered bigger and better if she have many #1 hits, than a pop star with an album that you can't skip, or even better than singles, but have very "poor" hit singles of lacking of #1's

Personally, I would hate if she was a "single artist" like Rihanna or Katy Perry. I've always wanted Avril to go further than that, to release good albums that tell stories and not just a collection of potential singles. Of course she has to release some single stuff, but not just for the sake of it, you know.

That's why she need to balance both side when it comes to single choices, She can't choose a song that is single potential but not really her fave, or choose something she love but not single material.

She needs to have an album like 21 The songs are personal but very radio-friendly.

Getting millions of people to pay $20 for an album by physically going out to the store is more impressive than getting them to pay 99 cents for one song by clicking a button, imo. (That goes for all artists, not just Avril.)

So yeah, it's definitely hard to compare.

But now you can "click a button" and download an album on iTunes for only $10. So...

Girlfriend, while her most successful single to date and one of my favorite songs from her, is kind of shameful because the lyrics and subject are pretty shallow.

Losing Grip was a terrible single choice, even though it was good enough to be nominated for a Grammy. However, had Avril picked ABO or TINS, she could have had 4 consecutive hits from the same album. The only thing it did for her was act as a good bridge between LG and UMS.

The Best Damn Thing- while I love this song, it doesn't work for a single. She should have chosen Runaway or maybe Innocence.

What the Hell- another great catchy song from her, but again the lyrics and subject are shallow and meaningless. It's also a bit too pop for her, they could have added more guitars in there instead of using electropop synths and beats. It just sounds like every other Max Martin pop song released in 2011.

Smile- another great song, but the verses could have used a lot of tweaking. It's too reminiscent of TBDT, she needs to separate those sounds because they're two separate albums. The chorus is brilliant, but the verses totally ruin the sentimental meaning of the song. The fact that it received little promotion also did not help.

Wish You Were Here- another really catchy song from Avril, but it gets boring quickly because it's so repetitive and generic. The lyrics are pretty bad on this one. I feel she could have done so much better than she did. Also a little too pop sounding for her, they could have used real drums and guitars to give it a more "organic feel" instead of that pop beat and all those electronic keyboard things.

Hits that shouldn't be hits : Girlfriend (It hurts my ears to listen) and What The Hell (Okay... Its a great pop tune! But doesnt suit her)
Flops that Should have been hits: Nobody's Home(Personally I think it's one of her best), Losing Grip and Smile (Released at the wrong time, should have been lead from Goodbye Lullabye coz it had the rock/pop and acoustic elements to it which was the perfect "transition" song)

The GF Remix was pretty damn embarrassing. I love TBDT (song) but that should never have been released as a single, the video was the worst thing in the world...ever.
