Then one time my stepmum said "oh yeah she had that Sk8er Boi song and then never really did anything else" so I educated her on her 3 consecutive UK #1 albums and her five top-5 hit singles, particularly Girlfriend which was only released 4 years before this conversation.

ugh! That is one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to anything to do with Avril. This doesn't just go for Avril obviously but if you're going to hate on something or just express dislike at least have an idea of what you're talking about. SK8er Boi wasn't even the song that propelled Avril to stardom..

I told him about the concert I went to in September and how Avril came on late and left early. I did defend her after he said that - I said about RCA forcing her to write really boring songs and I said how Goodbye Lullaby is very mellow and wasn't really cut out for the charts.

And what was your stepmum's reaction when you informed her about Avril's post-Sk8er Boi successes?

I don't think she cared to be honest! She just said that she thinks she remembers Girlfriend and then commented on how Avril has done quite a bit more than she thought.

I've had similar reactions before. i had a few friends who would always ask about avril bc they constantly said i looked like her (before i decided to give myself a hair cut =P) but i did see a girl in high school wearing a TBDT t and was like O.O!!!!!!! she knew what was going on w her too. but that was pretty much it.

I disagree, Girlfriend and When You're gone were BIG here in Venezuela, well, practically all over the world, and it is simple, those were the times where she had a proper promo schedule, simple as that.

If she gets proper promo again, people will love whatever genre, style, or whatever, she makes. Probably not the same people who liked her at Under My Skin, by X reasons, and they didn't liked the change, or the TBDT fans that didn't liked the change with Goodbye Lullaby, but IF she has proper promo, i'm sure people will start listening and talking about her, and buying her stuff. (But she needs a clear target, if she plans of doing a mature cd, do it mature, if she wants a fun childish album, do it well.)
