I finally decided to watch all of the movies Avril had an appearance. I would like to share my views about it.
Let’s start with this indie type movie Fast Food Nation. I’m not really into this more-talking-less-action sorta movies where it’s hard to pin-point the climax but of course, the climax for me would be Avril’s appearances (the very reason I picked up this movie). Her participation here gives this film hope along another big name Bruce Willis, because honestly, I don’t know any of the cast except the two. Considering that this is her first movie stint, I see flaw on her performance. She is supposed to be a rebellious geek but she acts like a girl straight from “Mean Girls.” The eye roll and hand gestures can prove my point. She’s not all that bad; she had some decent moments in a scene where they are freeing the cows. It’s an energetic rebellious scene ala Sk8er Boi vid that’s why she effortlessly nailed it. Overall, her movie debut is okay for a low budget film that doesn’t really ask much for her character.

Her next movie project requires her to dub a cute possum named Heather in Over The Hedge. The movie is entertaining. Avril’s performance is awesome. She just didn’t have the spotlight on her because the other characters overshadowed her, especially her dad that always appears with her on every scene. Her performance is convincing. Her voice easily fits Heather’s sassy personality.
Lastly, we have this psycho/crime drama, The Flock. I expected so much of Avril’s appearance in this film because she said she auditioned for the role and her name is the one that appears first on the opening scene but my expectations disappointed me. Her only scene on the entire film is during the investigation of his boyfriend. Compared to Fast Food Nation, her performance on this film is, no doubt, better and promising. She delivered that flirty but sensitive role with class. Her shots on the film are brilliant. I thought she appeared on later scenes but I realized that it’s not her but another actress that looks a lot like her.

So far, Lavigne has worked on three films. The question is: “Has she delivered a commendable Mandy Moore’s A Walk To Remember or Eminem’s 8 Mile performance or a-long-way-to-go Mariah Carey’s Glitter (Okay! I haven’t seen Glitter but the reviews I’ve read about it is terrible) The answer is: not yet. She has yet to showcase her acting skills because she’s not yet given a role where she can prove herself. I’m disappointed that she hasn’t gotten at least 10-minute screentime on any film.
She is a promising actress that needs to breakthrough. We had a glimpse of a promising tear jerker actress in WYWH and Goodbye video and a comedian in Girlfriend and Complicated video. Her music videos are enough to have her booked for another motion picture stint.
I wish she can land a lead role in a romantic comedy someday. I see that she’ll have a breakthrough there.

. I think a comedy role would suit her a lot.
