New Debate, Death Penalty

What do you guys think about this issue? are you supporting death penalty, or against it?

I am really for death penalty, However, with most of today's humane way to execute a convict. I think it's just an easy escape.

With life long sentence, It really depends. If they live in a "comfortable" life in a prison and being one of those top dogs, then it's useless, we are only paying for these A.Holes mortages,HOWEVER, if the condtion is like prison from Philippines, Thailand or Brazil, or if the con is being a bitch to someone, then life sentence will be the perfect punishment.

I Could go on and on with much more cruel way to treat those in deathrows and lifers...

But I want to hear your opinion about this issue.

The modern world (with very few exceptions) has chosen to reject the death penalty.

If someone is accused of murder by mistake, and then executed for it...saying 'sorry'
won't be enough.........

Why are you insisting on going back in time? Clocks usually don't go backwards.......

I do not agree with the death penalty at all. I think whatever the person did to deserve the death penalty they should just be put in prison for the rest of their life. If the are killed, they don't suffer for what they have done. There are also cases where the person who got the death penalty didn't actually do what they are accused of too..

That's why PROPER investigation should be done to avoid executing the wrong person. With life sentence thing, The only time i agree with it is when the prison condition is very, 3rd world and horrific, death penalty will be a quick escape.

The only time i disagree with death penalty IS if it will be an easy way out! I am not for " they are humans, they are blah blah blah" BLEH whatever.

It really depends on the crime. For example, all the terrorists that their aim is to kill many people as they can and to be killed too (cuz they think that if you do that you're a saint and you'll go to heaven) are not deserve to be killed by us (if they're staying alive).

The only death penalty that was executed here in Israel is the Adolf Eichman's one about 50 years ago but besides this its not really allowed here.

This is a great debate topic, I just wrote a kind of essay about it.

I am against death penalty. Criminals don't deserve this weak punishment. Yes, it's weak. They don't have to feel any pain in their lives no more, they are freed. Those people won't get to realize what they have done.
When they are in prison, it is the worst thing ever. They will have to find their place to fit in, and if they don't, life can be pretty hard in there. And of course, being locked up for the rest of your life, not able to do anything is the worst punishment ever to me. It's worse than being killed.
Financially, putting them in prison will cost more more, but for me it's worth it.

I'm against it for several reasons:

1. Once a person has been imprisoned and removed as a threat to society, it is wrong to then kill them. It's one thing if they are killed by police as they're avoiding arrest by shooting at people or making other threads. The main issue is that they've already been captured and removed from society.

2. Cost. In the US, the execution process — which includes all of the constitutionally-required judicial processes of appeals, etc. to ensure the right person is executed — costs exponentially more than life imprisonment.

California did a study where they found that the death penalty system there costs $137 million a year. If they replaced the death penalty with life imprisonment, the cost would be $11.5 million.

3. Innocent people. If one innocent person is executed, it's not worth it. And since no system will ever be perfect, I could never be comfortable with the death penalty.

4. It's not a deterrence. In the US, states with the death penalty have consistently had higher murder rates than those without it. At best, it simply doesn't do anything. Think about it: if someone commits murder, they aren't thinking about the punishment. Why? Because they don't believe they'll be caught!

That's why PROPER investigation should be done to avoid executing the wrong person.

Even with 'proper investigation', and a so-called fair trial, innocent people have been convicted of Capital Crimes.

Human beings make mistakes...and they have also been known to lie under oath.

How would you like it, if you were arrested for a murder which you did not commit, and condemned to be executed?

You would howl at the top of your lungs, protesting your innocence, and asking the authorities to investigate further, to find the true culprit.

But, once the button is pushed, you are no more.....gone like the wind....

For those who want life sentence for punishment purpose and practicality reason, I agree.

However, I really don't get the sympathy for murderers and rapists, If you know someone so close to you who have been a victim, your mind set will be different.
