Why bad for her publicity?
If I was in her position, I would have at least said something about it. That I do think she is talented. After that it's done, next topic. Saying that "she likes her hair" just seems fake to me..

She did finish the discussion quickly, with 'Avril's super talented' so she did defend her, but she didn't go over the top and create an argument, which creates bad press and bad publicity for carly. Both of these are amazing people and huge role models to me.

Who knows, maybe Carly is just not an Avril fan, do you expect her to give her over the top praise or something? It's not like she said anything bad about her, she said she has nice hair, at least she said something nice. I feel like many times interviewers ask artists what they think about "controversial" artists (Avril, Gaga, Bieber) to make them look bad by saying something negative about that artist. That is totally rude though, to say "We think all Canadians are nice, apart from Avril Lavigne." WTF Even if you think so, keep it to yourself and don't put someone else on the spot. I think Carly handled it as well as anyone else would have. Although the interviewers did consent that Avril is talented, so maybe they were joking?

I don't suppose you really think things through under pressure like that, she had to say something nice, because she obviously didn't agree with what they were saying. She told them, "Avril is Super Talented". Its pretty impressive how she handled that, especially live, in front of such spiteful people. She obviously likes Avril enough, otherwise she would have just completely agreed and started a bitching fight against Avril. GOOD ON HER!

I get what you mean, it does seem kinda forced to me as well but it could have been the nerves or pressure. And you're right - she definitely seemed more sincere when saying Avril was really talented. She probably didn't expect to be faced with a question like that and didn't know how to react.
