What if the fifth album isn't successful?

I'm sure it will be because it's not like Avril doesn't know how to churn out hits but what if the fifth album flops as well? If it does flop I hope it's "mature" as she says and lets her fans grow with her instead of targeting the teen audience just to lose them in a year.

I won't mind so much. I'm here for the music and not for sales or charts (although it's still fun to follow and discuss them). If it's good music then I'll be very happy.

I wouldn't care. Like I've said before, she's already had massive success. I'm not concerned about a comeback, but I'm more concerned about whether the quality of the music is good or not.

Well having only 3 huge albums is embarrassing for a pop star of her caliber, how many huge albums did her contemporaries have before they become irrelevant? Plus I don't believe Avrili s over all because of 1 underperformed album

And why are we even asking this question? I know this is an innocent asking but this thread can turn out to be horrible and it can make a big deal of negativity, which we have to much here.

Often times, asking the question " WHAT IF" before it even happens is like subconsciously we believe that the "what if" will happen" So it's not a good thing.

Sorry to sound like a broken record but I agree with plenty of the peeps above me.

She doesn't need to be the center of attention snagging #1 hits all the time. If she releases a good album, one that she truly poured her heart into and didn't just focus on juvenile writing tactics used solely to draw/keep reeling in a younger demographic, I'd honestly be happy with that turn out. All I want to see is a good album with music I can relate to, something that very clearly shows hard work and growth. If it shows me that, then I'm a satisfied fan.

If the new album turns out to be a monster smash, great. Always nice to see her getting some heavy praise and worldwide success.

Well she can pull a Mariah Carey. Her career in early 2000s is worst than Avrils 2011, 2 consecutive flops, Bad press and relationship with the media. But look what happened

You got a point, However answering this question is not easy, not because of the question itself but, I mean, Epic and Avril is certainly working with the "What if" and finding solutions to avoid it, Plus one of the main factor she flopped last time is PROMO!, and this time Avril will surely receive TONS OF RIGHT PROMO!.

Another thing, Avril being visible in GL era is a good thing if you ask me, why? because people even barely knows that she released an album or anything, And the general public ( the silent majority, not the outspoken A.Holes ) is not tired of her, I mean if she is overexposed during GL and failed, its a bad sign because the people are sick of her.

You know whats funny, even in her huge career moments, Avril have never been really the center of attention, nor receiving that much media focus, Even less relevant artist, as far as i know, received more attention than her, But it doesn't stop her for having 3 huge era.

What's good about Avril is she doesn't rely that on much media for her success. Yes the media is important for promo but that's it.

Avril can still attract the attention of anyone without trying, even in her flop moments, All she need is the right promo and singles.

I think She knows she can't continue with the same old tactics, or at least Epic knows it, They know they must play smarter and better this time with their moves.

if the album will flop, part of me will be sad. i want to see avril's success in this era. i hope she gains/regains fans, but most importantly she will make her loyal fans happy in this album. if it won't be that successful with smashing hits, somewhere in the middle is fine. having a good "mature" album is better than having a crappy mainstream one.
but i doubt it will flop anyway. avril has a huge fanbase worldwide that won't let her down.

We really won't know whether the album will do well or not because it hasn't been released yet and we have absolutely NO idea about what it sounds like, musically and lyrically, and how they plan to promote it, etc.

Like many others, I'm hoping it has great songs on it. That's the most important thing. TBDT is a great album but it only garnered 2 really successful hits. I'm sure with co-writers/producers like The Runners, Chad, and Bonnie McKee, that will draw more attention to the album. And if Epic promotes her as much as they did with WYWH, the record can sell 1 million easily. Even GL, with a bad single choice like WTH, could have sold more than it did if RCA had promoted her more. It was mainly the lack of promo that did her in last time and I don't see that problem occurring again with Epic.

And it depends what you mean by "successful." Platinum status with a top-10 hit would be a success enough for me. She doesn't have to get 4 #1s and sell 10 million copies for it to be deemed "successful", at least not to me. But I'm sure she'll sell 1 million easily, if GL could with bad singles and little promo, I'm sure this one can.
