Personally, I'd rather have a thread like this than one that's all about people being bitchy and nitpicking about things they don't like about Avril
For me, I don't think that GL was ever going to do well as her other albums for 3 reasons:
One being that it was four years since Avril had released an album (RCA again) so she had been out of the limelight for a while
Also, for Avril to want to release a serious album after TBDT pink/pop/"motherfucking princess" overload probably wasn't going to work especially since that image was all people would remember when Avril finally came back on the scene
Singles like WTH and Smile wouldn't help create the new image for Avril either (although they are both great songs imo) I think that if Push had been released after WTH then Smile and finally WYWH then the album could have had a more overall success
And it is a shame that the UK and US are what mostly count in terms of success because in Asia the album did very well. Also, Avril said herself that she'd had the most fun on TBST than she'd ever had on any tour so I would consider the album a success and not a flop simply becuase of how great Avril felt to perform it![]()

hell no !
i dont like smile stuff , only reason to stand it is avril.
i like the last half of the album but even these tracks comes imperfective to me somehow.
despite this. i still have respect to her so I have listened gl over 100 times ..

Just because they weren't smash hits does not mean they were flops!

Goodbye Lullaby WAS NOT A FLOP..it's my fav album behind Under My Skin..it was number 1 in 7 or 8 countries and was awarded with platinum plaques..THAT IS NOT A FLOP!..Besides, it's Avril's most professional work to-date

I would say that GL might be Avril´s least commercial successful album, but I would hardly call it a flop.

What about Japan? Its the 2nd biggest market in music industry, it brings much more money than UK, then despite its revenue, Why is Japan market being looked down, even made fun of, to the point being used in one degrading joke about artist who are big in Japan.Originally Posted by Sinister To view the link you have to Register
People have no idea how hard for any foreign artist to find success in Japan ( and Asia ), It is considered the hardest market to penetrate for any western artist, some people will give excuse such as " Japanese and other Asians have no idea about pop culture, they don't know whats hot and not in the west " WRONG! Asians, specially Japanese are pop culture loving people, we know who is hot and not in the US, The thing is, If we don't like an artist, your popularity in US/UK and even lots of radio airing won't work here, Having a success in Japan is mostly luck.
Well I know what you mean about US and UK market, I am positive that she will make it big in those 2 countries, at least in terms of commercial success, GL's sub par performance won't take away that she is Avril Lavigne, and that rough patches in her career will not going to stop her for having huge smash, in fact I actually believe that the failure of GL and its single is a great thing in the long run, At least Avril and Epic knows what not to do.

Again, you are calling her album a failure. Artists don't like to read that sort of commentary on their own fansite....Originally Posted by avrilxxx15 To view the link you have to Register

Technically speaking its not, if we talk about sales, however, It is even before it's release.Originally Posted by hank To view the link you have to Register
Scrapping up songs, writing songs just to compromise RCA, not being able to choose what is the single, then not having your original ideas and vision for the album came to life, For me, that is a failure.

Nice one! So ... well, stream wise the singles did well. I mean the music industry is on the web streams now and these billionaire musical artists that made albums in the 90's are passer! That won't happen again. So if you compare album and single sales to these types of artists. Of course it didn't make that much. The thing is stream wise, on vevo, she's still top 20 all time.
Now if you start looking forward to the next album, considering this Chad collaboration. She might drop below the top 20!!!
Especially if she focuses this album on her 'deep emotional message' to much. I mean, most people just have fun and none thinks about things so much.
So, she's still in the top 20 streamers on vevo for now, but she might go below that number just because of this Chad collab...

One of the most ridicouls post ever, Ok we get it, you hate Chad, But its funny that her album wont do good just because of himOriginally Posted by bmx666 To view the link you have to Register
People need to move on to this. We've been discussed about this topic since last year
