Thursday night I saw the latest Spider-man adaptation.
Now I often lament the fact that Hollywood milks sequels and reboots rather excessively but I must admit that I'm glad there wasn't a long gap between Raimi's and Webb's movies.
I have nothing against Tobey Maguire or Kirsten Dunst and i did enjoy Raimi's franchise (for the most part) but I feel that overall Mark Webb and the entire cast of "The Amazing Spiderman" was considerably better...
Here are a few reasons why:
1) Character development/Casting: The way in which most characters were presented and their respective casting choices were well thought out. Minor characters such as Flash Thompson were more fleshed out and complex. Emma Stone, Sally Field and Andrew Garfield were particularly outstanding.
Most importantly Peter Parker's intelligence and character traits are better established and closer to the comics and the iconic 60ies cartoon.
2) Sticking more to the original source material: Raimi took a lot of liberties and made significant alterations. Most notably he took events that occured between Peter and Gwen in the comics and used them with Peter and Mary Jane Watson in his trilogy.
3) Action sequences: So far they are a lot better. Andrew even gets to do some parkour in this one.
Who else has seen it?
