I agree with you , I mean she did a great job on "4Real" and "Goodbye" ..and I think she can do more,if she improve her skills!!
just look at SKYLAR GREY , have you heard her solo versions of "coming home" , "love the way you lie" and "words" ?? she produced them by herself ..and they're all epic

Over produced is when a song uses too many production techniques that it doesn't sound good any more. Production techniques are things like special effects and vocal layering (Where you hear more than just one vocal at one time). That's to name just a few.

In Call Me Maybe there's a very manufactured sound to Carly's voice, as though it's been auto-tuned too much. That's my opinion anyway.

Most people on here would say that most of Goodbye Lullaby, with the exception of WTH is actually quite stripped down (the opposite of over-produced. So it doesn't use many effects but still sounds good. While other, more critical people may say it's under produced and sounds a little amateurish. I think they got it just right actually.

WTH has a lot of production effects but it doesn't sound over-produced and it's by far the most 'produced' song on Goodbye Lullaby

Many may disagree, but some of Avril's songs are over-produced! Not a criticism at all as some are supposed to sound that way. A lot of The Best Damn Thing is (Avril said she wanted it to sound that way), Girlfriend, I Can Do Better, The Best Damn Thing and I Don't Have To Try. Avril has even admitted Let Go is over-produced, and if she could go back she would have changed a few things. A lot of the songs like Sk8er Boi, Unwanted, Tomorrow and Anything But Ordinary are over-produced. Like I said, this is not a critisism at all as Avril wanted that sound on TBDT and she has even admitted herself that Let Go was pretty over-produced. Under My Skin and Goodbye Lullaby are very under-produced. The only seemingly "Overproduced" songs on GL are the Max Martin tracks, but that's only because they contrast so much with the production on Darlin and songs like that.

Overall, Avril doesn't rely on Studio effects for a decent sound, though it was part of what gave TBDT its sound, and that was very deliberate.

I was under the impression that over produced meant too much production.

The same way that someone being over excited means they're too excited?

That doesn't always mean a bad song but it's not something I thought they would desire.

Sorry if I'm wrong, I just thought they would aim for a highly produced sound rather than over produced.

You could probably describe Alice as being Heavily but effectively produced from the opinion you've stated. The same with Let Go as they are also highly produced songs that you like.

I'm not having a go, it's just that I've seen it a lot on here and in some cases it appears to be used in the wrong context by complete accident.
