I also haven't said in any post that I disagree with what Miles is saying as everyone seems to be making it out to be. Just that a better example/comparison could have been used.

The way she's changed her voice has made it more suited to the kind of songs she's singing in Goodbye Lullaby and some of TBDT which is arguably very different to that in UMS and Let Go.

Now that she has made this change it's bound to be a little more difficult to go back and perform her older songs but her current tracks sound better for it. There have also been a lot of people saying that the BST lacked a bit of passion which could affect the outcome.

Who knows, we could have an entirely new sounding Avril for the 5th album.
I think the reason why TBDT and GL songs are harder to sing is because she wrote them that way. Obviously in LG she wasn't capable of hitting super high notes like in WTH or holding long notes like in WYWH, so she didn't write songs like that. Once her voice improved and she could do those things, she incorporated them into her writing. It's not exactly a coincidence that "those songs are made for her current voice."

I totally agree. Her voice in UMS was the perfect balance- it was low but not boyishly deep like LG and she could also hit high notes better, without sounding like a chipmunk like TBDT. Ironically, even though UMS is my least favorite of her albums, I think it's my favorite era in terms of the tour and live performances. She played more instruments and was just more about showing her musicianship back then.
Bonez vocals and stage setup + TBDT stage presence and energy = my idea of perfection.

OMG YES Except I'd switch Bonez stage with TBDT stage, just for more color and lights

I really have to wait to see what the next album is like! I could go with the TBDT stage but instead of pink, whatever color is appropriate for the album.

I also think she should play smaller venues this time and if necessary maybe play 2 nights in a place if there's demand. It would look so much better to have a small but packed venue with 5,000-6,000 people than a huge arena with the same number of people, but 2/3 empty.

I keep thinking blue might be the next color because she dyed her hair blue. But who knows. Smaller venues might work if she intends to do an "intimate tour" like she was supposed to do with GL, but if she wants another TBDT-esque tour, arenas might be better suited for that. I think it will depend on A) What the vibe of the tour is supposed to be like and B) How well the album sells.

I don't think a theatre tour would be good, but I was thinking medium-sized venues would suit her. But like you said...it also depends on how the album does and the demand!

That Avril is "That girl who swear a lot and wears a lot of makeup". I mean, one of my "friends" says she dosen't listen to Avril because she swears too much and she's incredibly immature. In TBDT she was rebelious, throwing all those cursers But she's not a swearing machine. And sometimes she puts heavy make-up on, but not everyday.

I know she wrote them for her voice but that development was obviously something that she had planned to enable her to sing songs like WYWH and the high stuff on WTH. I didn't say it was a coincidence, just that her voice is now more suited to that kind of song than her heavier UMS tracks.

I'm with you on the blue. Almost everyone in the prediction league agreed on that as well but as far as I know that's only because of the hair colour. Who knows, Goodbye Lullaby wasn't pink or semi-florescent green. It was more of a dark Green and crème/white so unless there's something else I've missed it could well be anything.

I would say if the music is more aggressive like UMS or TBDT a Stadium or large arena tour would still be fantastic. But if the album is full of softer songs like GL a more intimate set up would be really nice. She'd probably feel a bit more at ease performing a calmer song to a smaller audience.

But you're right. It depends on the albums performance too

I hate it that whenever I say Avril, people would go like "hey hey you you". and last time I was talking about her and some stupid girl was like "2007 was the last time she released something right?"

A lot of what irritates me is the fact that people don't generally respect Avril as a musican and so, by extension, her fans. Fans of artists like Radiohead or Adele are much more respected and even Lady Gaga fans despite the controversy she gets

And I guess people used to think she was really moody and arrogant cos in interviews she would never speak but then when you watched her documentary videos and she was just hanging out with her band you saw a completley different side to her (a much more strong personality), so there were a lot of misconceptions about her personality especially in the beginning

Also, reading up on this voice issue I think it's just a natural change, not something that she consciously does when she sings - I mean her voice definatley has a higher tone when she's speaking normally. I think her higher tone suits this era more now than it would have done in the beginning because now there are many artists who have deeper voices eg Jessie J, Adele, Rihanna, Katy Perry also to an extent

I think what was said before about the quality of recording having an effect on the sound of the voice is true because what I've found is when you record yourself on phone/camera you sound different to how you actually speak, idk maybe it's just me?

That's one of the things that made me think about it. I sound very different on a phone voice recording compared to real life or even a proper video recording (with professional equipment), I gave a short interview last year for something and it sounded completely different to how I sound on a phone recording.

But according to a few others I am wrong on this so there's no point arguing

I haven't really watched many of her early interviews and what I have seen have all looked more awkward than moody or arrogant anyway. Having watched the documentary videos though I can tell she's much more at ease when she's not 'on the spot'

But we were trying to say that the recording equipment doesn't change your tone of voice- she has a high-pitched voice in every. single. video. There is no grit or rawness in her voice like in LG/UMS in every. single. video. Yes, the quality can make her sound muffled, unclear, stifled, etc. It has no impact on the literal TONE of her voice though- we all sound a bit different on phones or video recordings, but our tone of voice is the same. I have kind of a low voice for a girl, but camera recordings don't suddenly make me sound like a chipmunk. And listening to yourself sounds different to you because when you talk your voice does not echo back to you in your ears, so when you hear it on a recording it sounds weird to you. Listen to someone else talk in person and then listen to them on a recording- it won't sound that weird to you, the quality may make them sound muffled or something, but it won't change their tone of voice. Know what I mean?
