A couple questions about " Complicated "

So complicated is Avril's 1st single, and I love that song
what difference to other songs which released that year , so that it has become very successful ?
Why the backing vocal track didn't use herself ?
Is it very difficult to sing ?

I don't remember the songs in 2002 .. I just know that Complicated was different and that nothing has ever sounded like this!

i don't think it's too different to things that were out at the time. there were a lot of pop/rock artists etc, but i think avril stood out compared to other female solo artists. plus it's a catchy song, and its radio friendly.
yeah, the verses are very low and avril defiantly had trouble singing some of the low parts when she first started but she's improved a lot now, seeing as she's been singing it for 10 years.

I've noticed in most of the songs during LG and UMS she didn't use her own voice to do the backing. I guess she wasn't that good at it or something... hmmm good question though.

I think for the songs she wrote with The Matrix the other songwriters did the backing vocals, just to give some variety in sound I guess. On her later records she is also credited with backing vocals, but I think she likes to add Butch in there sometimes or Evan just to make it more diverse in sound.

excuse me but all backing vocals in UMS were done by Avril. I think the only one that is also another backing vocals is Evan T in DTM with Avril

Probably just the dramatic contrast compared to regular mainstream music at the time (I can't really remember much from then but listening back is my only source). I wouldn't say complicated is difficult to sing, it seems very easy (at least to me)
