Avril Lavigne - influences album out now

For some reason, it seems like she only threw in that Distillers song to try to give herself punk recognition. Look how obscure it is from the rest of the list. And since when does her music ever sound remotely like The Distillers..........

I rememebr in a magazine her saying Brody Dalle was an influence on her and she loved the distillers. But I dunno how Bordy is a literal influence sincs Avril doens't look like her, sing like her or write songs like her.
Some of her choices seem a little obscure since shes never mentioned liking them before.

...and Dalle is actually the "lost inside" friend in Nobody's Home . Av's always mentioned Matchbox Twenty when she was younger, but they're not on the list.

the first four artists and Iris I would have predicated but then I would have guessed something by the beatles and something by nirvana and greenday cause shes mentions them a lot.

I agree about the choices being obscure. It's like she chose them to make it seem like she's very into different kinds of music, but these are all just pop radio hits.. Everyone has heard them before.

I remember her mentioning going on family trips and the beach boys being played so maybe the beach boys isnt so obscure. But she was pretty flippant about the fact that she thought Wipeout was a beach boys song

Obscure in the way that they are from all different types of music. Not that they aren't well-known, because they obviously are.

I thought you meant obscure as in most of them she hasnt even mentioned liking before so no one would have guessed she likes them.

It has just occured to me (I have a fascination with influences albums and stuff apparently) that a lot of the songs she has picked are the opening tracks to the albums they're on.


“Anthem Part Two” Blink 182 - 1st song on "take off your pants and jacket"
“All I Really Want” Alanis Morissette - 1st song on "Jagged little pill"
“Tubthumping” Chumbawamba - 1st song on "tubthumper"
“This Is The New *hit” Marilyn Manson - 1st proper song on "golden age of grotesque" I think
"I Get Around” The Beach Boys - 1st song on "all summer long"
"Sugar, Sugar” The Archies - 1st song on the album "sugar sugar" and the "best of..."

I agree with the review. The album length is disappointing - I mean, not the length itself but the number of songs. Matchbox Twenty missed it, The Dixie Chicks, too, Shania Twain for God's sake .

I read through this whole thread and no one ever bought it to find out what she wrote about the songs? I like some of her choices, but I hate Blink 182, Marilyn Manson, Alanis Morissette (her songs are decent but I can't stand her terrible singing techniques), and Janis Joplin. I like Iris, Dreams, I Get Around, and I love Tubthumping. The rest kind of suck and some I can't even see how they are an influence on her. I mean, her music sounds nothing like Janis Joplin, The Distillers, or Marilyn Manson. I could definitely see Alanis and The Cranberries in her though (especially the yodeling thing she does) Most of the songs she picked are terrible heavy metal screaming into a microphone crap garbage though. UGH

But they are much better than her new and current favorites such as rihanna, LMAO, and Black Eyed Peas.

Damn Avril used to have a great taste in music back then, but now? I don't know, but the fact that she loves Coldplay and OneRepublic means she still have a little class left when it comes to music taste.

Seriously, listening to LMAO and Rihanna won't bring any artistic growth to artist.
