Doesn't look good, but just try to explain to him and it was an honest mistake and that it won't happen again. If he complies, work your ass of to make it up to him and show that you are a reliable and responsible and vital part of the work force.

But in all seroiousness, you should be honest, but twist it just a little to make you come off better. eg, "I'm very sorry for missing the meeting (boss name here), but I was burying my cat and then I forgot"...
