shes actually a great singer. SOme of my friends were interrailing around europe last year and she was staying in a hostel they were in. they stayed up all night singing and playing guitar and drinking. She was just making a joke that the song was Avril's, but it's not lol.
Yeah I agree, I don't think she meant any disrespect to Avril in anyway. She just said "Sweet Jesus" because Michael misinterpreted what she said thought that was an Avril song. So Ellen said that it obviously wasn't in that way.
She wansn't ripping Avril's singing, she just said "Avril Lavigne watch out", meaning in a joking way that she would be Avril's new competition.
The way she jokingly said it, could very easily be taken as a compliment by Avril, because she thinks Avril is the one to beat, she is more than likely a fan of Avril's.

Ellen Page and Avril Lavigne are both Canadian. They're both around the same age. She was simply joking that she could take Avril's place as THE young Canadian pop singer.
When she said "Sweet Jesus", she meant that she couldn't believe that Michael thought that it was an Avril song, because it was obviously improvised and quite crap.
And she's actually an excellent singer. She had a little number at the end of Juno and she was very very good.
