...my head hurts. i have this bruised spot in the back where i fell against the steps. *grabs ice pack* i finally finished my homework but now i have to write fanfiction...

looong story. XD my room is a loft at the top of a 70 degree angle flight of stairs, i was running down them enthusiastically...and i fell like i was going down an extremely bumpy slide. there are converse scuff marks on the steps. *shrug*

“...You were arguing last night.”

“Huh?” My eyes were bleary, and I had to rub them with my fists to make out the image of my mother sitting at the kitchen table. I started walking to the counter to find something to eat.

“I heard you and Deryck arguing. What was it about?” How the hell could she tell? I wondered. There hadn’t been any yelling - if she had heard enough to know we had argued, she probably knew the answer to her own question.

“Were you eavesdropping?” I asked angrily. This was the second time this week my parents had grossly invaded my privacy, and I was starting to get pissed off.

“No,” my mom replied calmly, but I was pretty sure she was lying.

“We weren’t arguing,” I mumbled. “We were just...talking.” The kitchen felt cold and damp, because the post-rain morning air was drifting in the open window. The tiled floor was very cold underneath my bare feet, so I sat down with a glass of juice and pulled my feet up onto the chair.

“By the way, Avril, you have to go to the doctor today. I made an appointment for you.”

“Why?”

“You said it was almost four weeks ago you had sex. You need to get checked over, make sure the baby is okay.” The baby. Those words sent shivers through my body.

“Okay...fine. Wait, they’re not going to stick me with needles, are they?” I’ll admit it. I, Avril Lavigne, the toughest girl in Napanee, am fucking terrified of needles. I nearly passed out when I got my belly button pierced.

“Mom, please tell me I don’t have to get any needles,” I pleaded. I was starting to feel lightheaded just thinking about it.

“Sorry, honey,” she replied, although she didn’t sound sorry in the slightest. “They need to draw blood to confirm the pregnancy test. Maybe next time you have unprotected sex you should keep that in mind.”

Many, many vulgar thoughts were screaming inside my head, but I kept them all in.

“Good morning, Deryck,” called Mom. I turned around and saw Deryck coming down the staircase with a stony expression on his face. I hardly ever got to see him first thing in the morning, and it definitely wasn’t a pretty sight.

“Hey,” I said softly as he sat down next to me. My hand was shaking a little bit and I had to put my juice down. I still felt really bad about snapping at Deryck last night, and wasn’t sure how to break the awkwardness.

All I could come up with was a rather uncreative mumble of, “Sorry, babe.”

Deryck glanced between me and my mom and muttered to me, “Later.” That means he wants to talk about his feelings...I really hate dating a woman sometimes.

I couldn’t believe I had just thought something so mean about Deryck - the person I loved more than anyone else. Fuck it. I’m blaming it on the hormones...I should eat something before going to the doctor. I wonder if there's any chocolate ice cream in the house...?
