Avril Lavigne writes her own songs, is a great performer, had different acting parts and has now also launched her very own clothingline on the market …
We asked her what we can expect from ‘Abbey Dawn‘ !

Avril, can you tell us what we can expect from your clothingline ?
‘Well, It’s mostly shirts with rockmotives, cool jeans and joggingpants. I have also chosen my favourite colour for the pieces : Strong pink, lila, black and white.’
How did you come to think of designing your own clothes ?
‘I have the feeling that everyone in Hollywood has the same kind of style, but I fall a bit outside of it. I found it thus very frustating that I couldn’t find the perfect clothes. Sometimes I found something supercool in the shop, but then it didn’t fit right or wasn’t it something what I exactly wanted. That’s why I designed my own collection !’
From where does the name Abbey Dawn come from ?
‘As child I was called like that by my father and my best friends. Abbey Dawn Road was namely the name from a street in Napanee, the city where I grew up.’
Did you design the clothes all by yourself ?
‘I had help from my designerteam. I had explained them how I saw my clothes, and then they would make the designs. If I wanted to change something, that was always possible. I had hoped beforehand that we would get along and that they would understand my ideas. Luckily, it was like that ! ‘
And where did you get the ideas from for your clothes ?
‘ I got the inspiration for my collection from my own wardrobe. In that way you can see who I am and what I find cool. The style from my collection is very relaxed and is meant to wear the whole day through. I myself like the most easy clothes, so I wanted to have those clothes also in my collection.’
Do you have your own collection in your wardrobe ?
‘Of course, I’m very happy with it. The clothes that I wear on stage is what I also wear in private life. Why shouldn’t I walk around in pieces from my own collection then ? ‘
You have indeed an extraordinary style. How has your clothing evaluated in the last few years ?
‘When I just had started in the music world I was only 17. I wore baggypants and T-shirts and skateshoes, I was very much of a tomboy ! When I was 20 and fell in love with Deryck, I went through a phase where I wanted to wear dresses. Now I find my style rather casual. I don’t like to look girly, but I prefer to mix sweet clothes with tough clothes. I still love to wear hoodies, but once in a while I like to walk around on high heels ! ‘
And in which clothes does Deryck like to see you ?
‘He likes it very much when I put make-up on/dress myself up very fancy ! ‘ (smiles)
One more little question : which is your own favourite piece of the ‘Abbey Dawn’ - collection ?
‘I just love the poloshirt with the pink and white stripes. Buy that stuff ! ‘
