Amsterdam - March 17th 2003 by avrilnl.tk - Try To Shut Me Up Tour

Try To Shut Me Up Tour Review

Concert: Amsterdam

Reviewer: avrilnl.tk

Date: March 17th 2003

I left my house at 3.15pm and had to get the subway and train to get to the venue in Amsterdam. We arrived at 5.15 and there were quite a lot of people already. After standing in line for a little while the doors of the venue opened at 6.30. When I was in (very happy cause they searced my bag and jacket but forgot my socks.. and I had put my photo camera in my socks...) I got a Our Lady Peace snippet single cd and waited till something would happen.
The support-act, which was Our Lady Peace, started at 8. I have to say that they have a fantastic live show. They played five songs and after that they did their own little campaign against war. It’s an amazing sound when you hear 3,000 people standing up and yelling ‘no war’.
When they were gone, the roadies started to change the stage, which was behind a curtain. At 9.15 the lights went out and Matt started his part at the beginning of Sk8er boi. The curtain fell down and we could see Avril standing in front of Matt and jumping down as soon as the guitars starting to play. She’s wearing a green shirt and black trousers. I can’t really remember what the rest of the band was wearing (I’ll remember it when I see the webcast ) but I do remember Matt wasn’t wearing his shirt... (sorry to say this, i sound like a fucking boyband fan but he is fuckin hot). They had a very powerful opening and the crowd went mad.
Next off they played Nobody’s fool and after that Avril got her guitar and they did Mobile. You could hear Avril’s voice wasn’t working for the full 100% and she drinks tea (ah well I think it’s tea, I couldn’t really see what was in the mug) between the songs. Jesse’s already pissed off as his guitar isn’t working properly but they start Mobile and the song went well (I didn’t really missed Jesse’s guitar). After Mobile she got rid of her guitar and they did Anything but ordinary, and losing grip, which was amazing! The crowd seemed to love this song and I’m sure it’s gonna get to the top of the dutch charts as everyone was singing (or should I say screaming) along. The next song is Naked, Avril got her guitar (I think this is another one then the one she used for mobile) and played it..... after this they did Too much to ask, which I thought was one of the best songs live... she puts so much emotion in it, it makes me wanna cry or something in that way. When it’s finished they’re playing I don’t give and there were a lot of people who knew the song (which surprised me) so it’s cool to hear everyone singing I don’t give a damn..... As usual she’s doing her I don’t give a shit lyrics, which are even better
Next up she’s talking and not sure if anyone will recognise this song and the guitar starts.... it’s a fucking green day cover... basket case! I think she did it very well (I like this cover so much more then her Chop Suey cover)... There weren’t that many people in the crowd who knew green day tho.. but the few people who knew it were rocking their ass off. Avril got a pair of boxers on stage during the song and after she’s finished she’s throwing them back in the crowd. After that amazing song, which was one of the best moments of the show to me, they did My world. To calm down after this song, Avril’s sitting on Matt’s drumset and they do I’m with you.Complicated is next and she picks two persons out of the crowd to come on stage and sing with them (Jesse’s complaining that it takes too long to get those people out of the crowd). She gets an 18-year-old boy and a 13-year old girl, who wasn’t to good in english.... Avril asks how old are you, she answers with i’m fine... Anyways, the boy sings the good lyrics, the girl screws it up.. but Avril thinks she’s cute...
After Complicated Avril’s saying her thank you words to the crowd and they start with Unwanted. Everyone’s jumping and screaming and the crowd gones wild one more time. After the song she and the band walk of the stage and after a minute everyone starts yelling ‘we want more, we want more’. After a while Avril and Evan come back up, each with an acoustic guitar. Avril’s telling the crowd that Matthew busted his drumset and there are a couple of people in the dark watching to his drumset and look if there’s anything they can do.
Avril and Evan both play and amazing and perfect version of Tomorrow. After the song there comes a man to Avril and Avril tells the crowd that Matt broke his drumset and they have to do their last song acoustic as well. She also tells they never did this one acoustic. They play Things I’ll never say (and they do it very well, I didnt expect it any other way actually :P) and Matthew, Charlie and Jesse come back on stage... The crowd goes wild one more time, Avril says her thank you’s once again and they get of the stage...

It was an amazing concert!
