Edmonton - April 24th 2003 by Roxy_Bubbles2 - Try To Shut Me Up Tour
Try To Shut Me Up Tour Review
Concert: Edmonton
Reviewer: Roxy_Bubbles2
Date: April 24th 2003
I went to Avril's show in Edmonton Alberta, and all I have to say is...WOW. It was so amazing, we had GREAT seats ( we didn't wanna stand, and my sisters friends mom works at ticketmaster and we have connections with her family, so we got really good seats about 2 weeks before they came on sale)
Anyways, got there at about 6:30pm and waited outside for a friend to come as we had an extra ticket last minute, and we were standing outside when all these little girls walked by wearing ties, it was cute. Then these older girls wearing ties and trying to look like her for the becoming contest walked right by and I seriously thought one of them WAS Avril hahaa. I made an idiot out of myself and I was like..OH LOOK THEY ARE ALL WEARING CAMOFLAUGE AND HAVE TIES ON!!! THATS CUTE!!! and they all gave me the dirtiest looks. Oh well. ( It's kinda sad when you feel the need to dress just like her at her own concert, I love Avril to death but I didn't wear anything that resembled me wanting to be like her at all). So we get into the hall and get our seats, and gob opens. They do a really good job and scream at the end..."Check out our new single and request it on the radio...one more gob song means one less creed song!!!" and then they got off. There was a break and then Swollen Members came on and everyone went crazy...they did really good, I love them!! They sang breathe and asked all the girls to sing Nelly's part because she wasn't there.
After their set there was about a 45 minutes break and then the lights went down. Try to shut me up flashed across the curtain and I couldn't believe it. It just hit me..and really hard...Avril Lavigne was about 30 feet away from me. I started jumping up and down and my friend beside me, Rachelle was doing the same thing. The notes began and then the curtain dropped...there she was fist in the air, dressed in greenish pants and a whitetank top with wavy hair...and began Sk8er Boi. We were jumping up and down screaming and shouting and getting dirty looks from parents...like I said, the audience looked like they should have been at Sharon Louis and Bram. Nobody's fool came on and then Mobile which she whipped out her guitar at...Basketcase was really good and my friend and I were the only people around us who knew the words to I don't give. Then She was like " Hey we thought it would be cool if we had beach balls and threw them around, but most people tend to grab them and hold them...so don't do that, pass them around it'll be fun!!!" and then continued in song. The beach balls had her name and stars on them, and after about 2 minutes, they weren't to be seen again...I mean all those people knew she had touched them and wanted to keep them, so that idea didn't work all that well. Complicated came and she said she needed someone to come up onto the stage...she brought and 11 year old girl who handled it perfectly...I'd be passing out or screaming or something...and Theo from Gob. She got on his shoulders and went around the stage singing. It was pretty good. Then she was ending off and glitter came down from the ceiling...I still have mine!! haha. She came out and did an encore with Evan...they did Tomorrow and Things I'll Never Say. She looked like she was going to cry in Tomorrow though, and had to collect herself a few times. Then, it was all over as Evan piggy-backed her offstage. We were standing outside after and heard all these girls scream and saw them run by onto their bus...it was pretty cool we were really close. We walked up and looked at the tour bus and Theo from Gob came out and said hi, he was pretty cool. Wanted to meet Avril again this time actually knowing who she was and being a huge fan, not a 15 year old avril....But it was a really good concert.
So all of you that have concerts left...look forward to them, it was amazing. And all you antis out there who say that she can't sing...get off your ass, buy a ticket and listen to this girl rock. She rocks in a big way and is going to be around for a LONG time. Good job Avril, we love you!!!
