April 12th - Glendale Galleria
Reviewer : Tully so i just got home from the LA show, and i'm still giddy. i drove down from santa barbara and got there at 8 am, when the roadies were just starting to set up the stage. 5 people were there before me; they got there at 6:30! i was kinda dreading spending all those hours sitting on the ground outside the mall, but the folks who were waiting near me were really fuckin cool, so time didn't pass too slowly. (hello to leanne, jo, lynn, and corter, if any of y'all ever read this!) lynn brought an acoustic guitar, so we had some good times trying to put together the right chords and lyrics of various
avril tunes. anyway, they let us in sometime around 3, and we all got in the front row. (for anyone who was there, i was the kinda tall dude with the long hair.) avril and evan went on a few minutes after 5. the show was simply amazing. i've never heard avril's voice so right-on when she was singing live, except for probably those aol sessions. she sounded beautiful. and she was smiling so much! being able to watch evan's hands let me realize what an incredible guitarist he is. the was he plays sk8er boi and comlpicated on an acoustic really breathes new life into those tunes. he didn't throw down a lot of
backing vocals, though. the setlist was: he wasnt, my happy, sk8er, dont tell me, take me, nobodys home, complicated.
after the show a crazy flock of people lined up behind the mall for autographs. this was all carefully planned - we all had to line up behind those bike-rack-style barriers, and there were pigs everywhere. so it didn't take much strategy or craftiness to get something signed. after we waited for close to an hour, the tour bus pulled up, and avril and evan came out of the mall and spent over half an hour singing shit for everyone. i was so impressed - i really didn't think they'd be willing to sign for everyone. then evan invited me onto their tour bus to hang out for a while, and we all got drunk together. they kept trying to convince me to ride with them in the bus to their gig in phoenix tomorrow, but i decided i shouldn't ditch
another day of school.
good times, good times... i can't wait til the tour in the fall. oh, and the
end of my story's total bullshit.
